Following a resounding victory in the Egg Bowl on Friday evening against Mississippi State, Jaxson Dartdecided to make the case for Ole Missto get into the College Football Playoff.
The Rebels had an inside track to get to the dance, but a loss to Florida in Week 13 doused their hopes a bit. Still, they have an outside chance of getting into the Playoff, and Dart put it bluntly while elaborated on why his tea is worthy, telling the Selection Committee to ask Georgia’s Kirby Smart what he thinks of Ole Miss.
We’re the team that showed that we can beat anybody,” Dart told the media, regarding why Ole Miss deserves a Playoff spot following the win. “And my pitch is, you know, you look at — you look at the conferences, you look at the strength of schedule, obviously, we slipped up some games that we definitely were not supposed to do, and that’s going to bite at us. But, you know, I definitely think, without a doubt, we’re one of the best teams in the country.
“I think you can go around and ask any coach that same question. You can go ask Kirby Smart what he thinks. Yeah, I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I know that if we get a shot, we’re gonna make a run at it, for sure.”
Regardless of Dart’s feelings, the Rebels are going to need some help to get into the College Football Playoff, and even then it’s a long shot. That might sting, especially after they entered Gainesville with a chance to control their own destiny, but it doesn’t take away from the tremendous season Ole Miss has put on the board.
It might’ve been Jaxson Dart’s last chance to get to the College Football Playoff, but Lane Kiffin and the Rebels are set up for success now and in the future. They’re not going anywhere, and while they may not get to the dance in 2024, they’ll be a contender year-in and year-out from now on.
