AwRavens Make Surprising Move in Free Agency..
The Baltimore Ravens have made a splash in free agency, signing running back Derrick Henry to a two-year, $16 million deal. The move is a significant addition to the Ravens’ backfield and is expected to bolster the team’s running game.
Henry, who has been one of the top running backs in the NFL over the past few seasons, brings a wealth of experience and production to the Ravens. Since 2018, he has rushed for 8,268 yards, the most in the NFL during that span. He has also scored 73 touchdowns and has been named to the Pro Bowl twice.
The signing of Henry is a surprise move by the Ravens, who were not expected to be major players in free agency. However, the team’s front office has been aggressive in its pursuit of talent, and the addition of Henry is a significant coup.
“We are thrilled to add Derrick to our team,” said Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta. “He is a talented running back who brings a lot of experience and production to our backfield. We believe he will be a great fit for our team and will help us achieve our goals.”
In addition to the signing of Henry, the Ravens have also retained several key players. Defensive tackle Justin Madubuike has been re-signed to a four-year, $98 million deal, which will keep him in Baltimore through the 2027 season.
Madubuike has been a key member of the Ravens’ defense since being drafted by the team in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has started 32 games for the Ravens and has recorded 12.5 sacks and 25 tackles for loss.
The Ravens have also re-signed linebacker Kyle Van Noy to a two-year, $9 million deal. Van Noy has been a valuable member of the Ravens’ defense since signing with the team as a free agent last offseason. He started 14 games for the Ravens and recorded 69 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 10 tackles for loss.
Other key signings by the Ravens include quarterback Josh Johnson, who agreed to a one-year deal, and cornerback Arthur Maulet, who was re-signed to a two-year deal. Defensive lineman Brent Urban was also re-signed to a one-year deal.
The Ravens’ aggressive approach to free agency is a clear indication that the team is committed to winning and is willing to do whatever it takes to bring a championship to Baltimore.
“We are excited about the moves we have made in free agency,” said Ravens Head Coach John Harbaugh. “We believe we have added some talented players who will help us achieve our goals. We are looking forward to getting started and seeing what we can accomplish.”
The Ravens’ offseason has been marked by significant change, with the team parting ways with several key players, including wide receiver Sammy Watkins and defensive tackle Calais Campbell. However, the team’s front office has been aggressive in its pursuit of talent, and the additions of Henry, Madubuike, and Van Noy are expected to make a significant impact.
As the Ravens look to the upcoming season, they are confident that they have the talent and depth to make a deep run in the playoffs. With a strong offseason and a commitment to winning, the Ravens are poised to make some noise in the AFC North.
“We are excited about the future of our team,” said DeCosta. “We believe we have the talent and depth to compete with anyone in the NFL. We are looking forward to getting started and seeing what we can accomplish.”
